... I ran 12 miles yesterday, and that was a recovery run.
... I frequently lap joggers on the local college training course (a 1.1 mile loop) before they even finish their first loop.
... I'm disappointed if I don't race at least 15 minutes under my BQ time.
really? see we've had conversations about this and somehow i just don't see it happening... i have no problem with stopping for a bathroom break. no problem at all.
I ran the Mini Martian marathon today with my 6 and 9 year old sons. They raced the entire distance. There was no jogging. If anyone needs to know the difference between running and jogging, ask a kid. It was so cool to be a part of it. Those kids ran their hearts out trying to win. They finished with times of 11:12 (6 year old) and 10:20 (9 year old) for the 1.2 mile course. Both of them are anxious for their next race. Motivating the next generation of runners is an important role for all of us to play and if you get the chance to be part of an event like this you should consider doing it.
Couldn't agree more. My 12 yr old son ran two 5Ks last summer and my 11 yr old twins ran 2 miles at a thanksgiving day turkey trot. Hoping to be able to get all of them running again this summer. My wife and I both run as much as time will allow, even in the winter. Our last three 5Ks have ben in the snow. I get a real kick out of the kids here, it's encouraging to see kids doing something active, not enough of that nowdays.
....I am a charter member of the Running Preservation Society
....You plan your family vacation around a race or great run routes
....You pop your trunk and there are shoes, sox, shorts and a hat so you can run anytime anywhere
....You spend more money on running shoes a year then most will in their life
....You slip on a muddy trail running to work get covered in mud get up laughing keep running and make it to work just in time for a meeting with your boss and his boss and you have yet to shower and change. Your excuse for being covered in mud ....rough commute
- 13 miles is no longer a "long run"
- i get extremely jealous when i see others running, even if i've just finished a 17 miler
- i have anxiety on rest days
- breakfast is half a box of cereal, grapes, almonds, yogurt, more cereal... a little more cereal... a little more...
- i've been late, left early, and just flat out called in sick to work in order to run
- they say you're supposed to take some time off after a marathon... um, what? i think not.
- i can't even WALK slow
- i do not take pretty race photos
- i look damn good in spandex
- i'm hesitant to go on vacations because i can't think how any day could be remotely enjoyable without running
- i've bruised my forehead, arms and thighs running through hail

...being cut up during a run is a perfectly normal event.
..."Run, Forrest, run!" has lost all its funny.
...I have incorporated words like hash run, fartlek, PR and chronograph into my vocabulary.
I run in rain, sleet, snow, ice and heat!
I run because I love to run!
I think about running and how to improve my times!
I get all excited when I get a new pair of shoes or when the new Runners World shows up!
When people refer to me as a jogger, I feel insulted :)
Most of all, I know I am not a jogger because I am a runner in every sense of the word!
...because rather foolishly i've run through rain and hail in the midst of a tornado watch. the trails were like mini rivers and when it flattened i was running through water that was well above my ankles. it was muddy and freaking cool!! although i don't recommend running during tornado watches because usually there's lightning and such but damn it was fun!!
...and then when you relate the story to someone they just give you that look. you guys know what i'm talking about
...and because you have something like eighty million pairs of old running shoes.
