Post some inspiring quotes that aren't as well known, but are still powerful, but no prefontaine please, i think we've got those all by now...

From "Again to Carthage"
~The truly great advantage of going all out every time is that later you don't have to waste a single instant second guessing yourself

From "Once A Runner"
~Or we can blaze! Become legends in our own time, strike fear in the heart of mediocre talent everywhere! We can scald dogs, put records out of reach! Make the stands gasp as we blow into an unearthly kick from three hundred yards out! We can become God's own messengers delivering the dreaded scrolls! We can race dark Satan himself till he wheezes fiery cinders down the back straightaway....They'll speak our names in hushed tones, 'those guys are animals' they'll say! We can lay it on the line, bust a gut, show them a clean pair of heels. We can sprint the turn on a spring breeze and feel the winter leave our feet! We can, by God, let our demons loose and just wail on!"

"I can't remember a mile race in my life that was even mildy amusing."- Quenton Cassidy

"Courage is the power to let go of the familiar"

"Tough times don't last but tough people do"

90% effort= 100% failure

"Some people dream of great distance running, others get up in the morning and work for it."

"You have a choice. You can throw in the towel, or you can use it to wipe the sweat off your face."

"Whether it's the best of times or worst of times, it's the only time we've got"

"I stopped running marathons when I started running long distance"-Richard Cozart

He is 78 years old and can still be seen running every day. He's aiming for running 1,000 miles for every year of his life, and he's only been running for the past 35 or so years.

All great quotes - I've definitely found some new mantras. Here's my favorite Pre quote, that I really don't think gets around enough:

"The only good race pace is suicide pace,
and today looks like a good day to die."
~ Steve Prefontaine

I think thats the best one I have heard yet. One of my favorites is "When it is hard to run, Run Hard!" That has gotten me up a few hills and down the final stretch of some long grueling runs.

41:19, but the interesting thing is that two weeks later, I ran a half marathon that was on the same course as the 10k (just rearranged a bit, with a few miles added), and if I had run the 10k at the same pace I ran my half marathon, I would have go…
