Just curious as to how many of you out there are hard core about your diet in correlation with your running. I'm a run to eat person -- I run so I can eat whatever! I have noticed that the more I run the more I want to eat to run, the whole fuel the machine mindset.
i'm pretty strict about my diet... i'm a vegetarian and i don't really believe people should eat just whatever they want no matter how hard they workout or how good of shape they're in. that said, i do enjoy the fact that running allows me to eat more, and i don't really have to worry about calories. so i guess i eat to run, but what it really comes down to is that i eat to be as healthy as possible.
Honestly, I just eat whatever and run as hard as I can. Somehow, it all evens out in my head. I'm trying to focus more on time and distance. Speaking of eating, I'm hungry!
Food is fuel; I eat to run. I try and eat frequent small portions of whole foods in order to keep my metabolic rate up and my blood-sugar levels even. I'm a teacher and between each period I grab a piece of fruit, a few handfuls of cereal, or some sort of granola/energy bar.
hoenstly, things like that piss me off. i don't really think anyone should eat things like that, but if you're already that unhealthy (hello! raising the cost of health insurance for everyone) then DUH! have a salad! you know those are the people that have to go in for gastric bypass surgery and are like "wow, i just didn't realize i was that heavy". really? you didn't REALIZE it?
You know Kevin I totally understand and agree with how you felt about the patron in the bar, but I also know that since I changed my life around I find myself being more critical of people who don't eat right or don't exercise. I don't like it when I have that judgemental attitude I always hope and pray that something clicks in their (unhealthy) heads. If people don't get that it's their lives at steak shame on them! We can offer our opinions, but lets not be to jugemental it's hard to be addicted to all the good foods that out here. Take it from me I've been there and decided I wanted better for myself.
agree with ya there tyra. once you start treating your body better (watching what you eat, exercising, etc) it almost seems to amplify the negative habits of those around you. but youre right, a lot of folks dont know better. you can only hope they have a light-bulb moment down the road and then make a change for themselves
You know, one of the things that I've noticed is how some people can twist things around to make it seem like you are the strange one for eating well. When I work, I have a grocery bag full of food - fruits, veggies, home-cooked foods (broiled meats, more veggies, rice or something etc.) - and everyday I get asked why I don't eat the free donuts or how I can eat like that all the time. After explaining to them how it works, I always get the response, "I could never do that, I don't have time" or "I just don't like fruit", or whatever followed by donut number two or three. And then they wonder why they don't lose weight.
The other question people always ask is how I eat so much and don't gain weight. But then I always end reminding them how much I run and what I eat which is typically followed by a "you're crazy" remark. I don't make derisive remarks about others' diets so I'm not sure why I should get them. So after awhile I don't feel so bad being judgmental about my observations of other people's diets. But maybe that's the wrong attitude to have (something to work on). Granted I don't eat perfect all the time (love cookies) but I don't perform as well when I eat crap so I make sure not to do that all the time. But as you, Kevin, mentioned it's all about balance.
i get the same attitude at work. people remarking on what im eating, or as the case may be, what i dont eat. it comes across as disdain or criticism, more often than not. i think some of that is fueled by their inability to change their own eating habits, or their lifestyle.
...ultimately its ones choice. live and let live, right?
for me food goes in waves. sometimes i eat really really well, and other times i fall off the wagon and eat fatty unhealthy foods for a few days. whats really helpful is to have support, people who kinda share youR same goals and motivate you, rather than help lead you astray (thank you joe!).
with running, i can eat pretty much whatever and feel good, as long as i eat enough.
.... put me down for run to eat, i guess. lol
Finally achieved the goal of running the Marine Corps marathon and it was a crazy experience. Most of the time I out there doing these races alone, or on occasion with a family member or two in tow, but I was lucky enough to be able to schedule vaca…
