Hey all my running buddys out there, I am competing in my first adventure race this week, have any of you do this before and have any advice for me? Its 12 miles biking, 4 miles canoeing, 6 miles trekking/running, plus mystery challenges. I am SO excited!! check it out at the following web site: www.gulfcoastadventure.com, they may have some in your area!
that sounds pretty cool... there's something like that here - the denver oyster - but i'm not exactly sure what all goes on during the race. i've been kind of thinking about doing it this summer - especially 'cause there's a $10,000 prize which i would be quite happy to receive.

So how did your race go? I have been toying with the idea myself. There are a few of them a year in San Francisco. There is also one where you run the city with no defined course. You get clues as where your check points are and you run to them. Before you get your next clue you have to answer a question or do a dare. It's pretty crazy but they give cool prizes to the winners. Oh yeah, it's also a team of 2 run.

Hey Eric, Our races are teams of 3. The race was AWESOME, crazy and wild!!! I'm doing another one in a couple of months. Your team MUST finish ALL the tasks together or your DQ'd from the course you don't finish. Try it, you either love it or hate it. What do you have to loose?

I've done a couple adventure races, and I LOVE them. The checkpoints and obstacles add so much excitment to the race. I started as a cross country runner, progressed to triathlete, and then stumbled upon adventure racing. It's so much fun, I don't think I'll ever go back to plain running.
