So, I've been getting blisters on the outer part of my arch. I have Asics 2140s and I use Nike socks that are pretty padded. I was wearing Nikes a few months ago and had the same problem, but then I switched and it went away, but now it's back. I went to xc camp and then took a little bit of time off after I got back to recover and what not, so I don't know if that would really effect it, but it really shouldn't happen I don't think...so, anybody know anything?

I am no expert but blisters come from hot spots caused by friction, so you simply need to find the cause of the friction or eliminate it by other means. Based on what you say, it sounds like it might not be related to shoes, although loose fitting shoes will cause arch blisters because your foot slides.

The next thing to check are your socks. You say that you use padded socks. You might try a thinner anything-but-cotton type of sock (cotton is very abrasive, especially when wet). For example, a sock made by feetures(tm) http://www.feeturesbrand.com/). There are a number of other sock brands out there. I personally like feetures because they are relatively inexpensive and last a long time (I am logging between 50 to 70 miles a week and my feetures are over a year old and still in good shape).

If all of this fails, I have friends that put Bodyglide (antichafing stuff) on their feet before the socks go on (once again, to reduce friction). One friend gets blisters on one particular toe and the only thing that works is moleskin.

I hope this helps a little. My bet is that you can fix it by changing the type of socks you wear.

The Adidas Formotion line of socks is designed to better wrap the foot to help stop hot spots from springing up. I have never used them, but a friend i run with raves about them. The link is to a persons running page that did a review on them, hope it is helpfull http://www.chasingthekenyans.com/2009/06/product-review-adidas-form...
