Save Run

i'm sure it's happened to everyone - drivers cursing at you, dumbasses yelling "run, forest, run!", people throwing crap at you... amidst all of the inconsiderate pedestrians and horrible drivers, i bet there are afew choice incidences that stick out in your mind.

for example: years ago on the 4th of july, i went out for a run and these brats drove past and threw those little white packets of gunpowder (the kind that pop when you slam them on the ground) at my feet and then last summer i was hit from behind by a f------- cyclist.

what are your stories?

i lived in a house for a while in kind of a small town and i would run everyday at the same time. well these dudes figured it out and started following me everyday and when id stop to cross busy highways they would stop roll down their windows and try talking to me. i would ignore them and not look at them but they would follow me all the way home at least twice a week. it really freaked me out so i had my bf run with me a few times and they finally stopped. im still pretty leary about running alone now bc of it. i still remember it was a black lincoln navigator and 3 mexican guys probably 21-22 years old. makes you second think youre routes and how safe they actually are....

I have had the usual yelling and screaming.......Only once has anyone ever thrown something at me. It was a polar pop with what looked to be some sort off soda in it. He missed and I gave him the finger. My favorite is always the people who yell that running is going to ruin our knees or that we are putting too much stress on our bodies. I figure what do they know they wont get off the couch long enough to even try.

A guy caught me at the end of a set of ladders on railroad ties, and told me that it would ruin my knees and hips.

Those two old ladies we passed this morning were making comments about how bad it is to be running barefoot

a friend of mine, Gary Romeister, won the mini marathon in Indianapolis 5x, he actually knocked out a guy a few weeks ago, it was in the papers and everything. Not too bad, when you consider Gary is like 60 and the drunken idiot was 25.

I have recieved the 'run, forest' several times, but a couple months ago I was on a morning run, roughly 9am. It was daylight and I was on a mainroad. I came to an entrance to a small factory, I checked traffic and had a few cars coming, none with turn signals. I was one step into the entrance when a guy cut the corner doing roughly 30+ mph. This entrance is VERY wide, you could put 5-7 cars side by side. He was turning left and didn't turn onto the right side (his lane) or even slow down. If I had been 1 second earlier he would have nailed me.

I started to let it go, but changed my mind. I ran up the hill to the factory prepared to throw down, but the driver had parked and ran inside. I asked another worker coming in if they knew who drove the vehicle, they said no but saw what happened and they said the guy was driving crazy.

I must admit that I've had times in a car when I didn't see a runner or cyclist and have to stop quickly to let them go. But, those are purely accidental. This guy had to see me (I was in a wide open area) and was just trying to beat a car coming the opposite direction. Total disreguard for another person, that is what really ticks me off.

41:19, but the interesting thing is that two weeks later, I ran a half marathon that was on the same course as the 10k (just rearranged a bit, with a few miles added), and if I had run the 10k at the same pace I ran my half marathon, I would have go…
