Save Run

Running Preservation Society

I came pretty close to getting a dog yesterday, but ended up not doing it.

If I do end up getting one, I'd like to get a dog I can run with, even if it's just a little bit at the end of my regular run for a cool down. I live in an apartment, so I can't get a big dog, which means whatever dog I get won't be able to run far or fast anyway, most likely. Does anyone out there run with a dog? Any ideas or suggestions?

After college I want to get a boarder collie. They're one of the smartest breeds and they can run for miles.

I currently have a curious cross bred dog that is smallish but doing surprisingly well at running. He is a cross between an Australian shepherd and Pomeranian. So far he is 8 months old and up to 4 to 6 miles a day without any sign of lagging or significant fatigue. The absolute best running dogs I ever had were a pair of Husky/Malamute crosses. I never found their limit! They were big but I never worried about being bothered by anyone or anything when they were running with me. My current dog whimpers a lot when running in the dark...not too comforting, lol!

I have an australian shepherd and he LOVES to run. In fact you have to run them or else they'll find ways to get in trouble when you're not around. I run him in the morning for 4 miles and then my wife will run him in the afternoon. They are great dogs. Not too big, so perfect for an apartment.
