Last winter, we had a series, called '100days,100runs', where I had to wear a watch to secure I´m running at least half an hour when I was out, but usually I never wear a watch, even in races.

With... absolutely with. I use my Garmin for distance. I try not to look at it for pace, but just run at the pace that feels right, but I find myself looking down about every half mile just to see what my current pace is. Mainly I need it for distance though.
Before I had a Garmin, if I was in a place where I didn't know the distances, I would still use a watch, and assume an 8 minute pace, knowing full well that I was probably doing faster than a 7 minute, but I like to estimate my distance conservatively.

I normally don't wear a watch. However, once a week I will run intervals where I vary my pace for a certain amount of time. I where a watch to use the stopwatch. Other than that, I just roll on.

I do wear an mp3 play, usually. However, like Heather said, I also have a much harder time getting into a good pace when wearing it. I never compete with a mp3 player.
