Save Run

Just curious if anyone knows the pros and cons to this, but I leave for work every day at 5:40 am, and I usually don't leave work till around 6-6:30 every day, to make it back by 7. Sunset is 7:30, so what I've been doing lately is running at lunch. However, I don't have that much time at lunch, so I run 4-5 miles (usually at a good pace, 6:30/mile or faster). Because I like to do at least 7-8 miles, I've been coming home and going for another run for 3-4 miles at a more comfortable pace. My question is, does anyone know what this is doing for me?

The way I see it, running that distance over two runs isn't as good for my endurance as doing it in one setting, but are there any pros? Are there any other cons that I might not be thinking of? Just curious if anyone has any insight into this.

I'll probably keep doing it, because my schedule doesn't allow for much else, but still worth asking.

The only cons come about in my experience from not having enough recovery time between runs. You will discover soon enough if this is a problem though if you breakdown. I understand that the real pros come about in your 5k and 10k race distances; you are getting good intense work at lunch and then a little extra endurance in the evening. It sounds like a nice combination and good strategy given other aspects of your life. I have to get up at 3:30 in the morning some days to get runs in. Sometimes I think heroin would be a gentler addiction!

41:19, but the interesting thing is that two weeks later, I ran a half marathon that was on the same course as the 10k (just rearranged a bit, with a few miles added), and if I had run the 10k at the same pace I ran my half marathon, I would have go…
