I think it was the Illinois Half-marathon. Weather was perfect (started in the 40's and ended in around 60), no wind. Fast course, but with enough segments so you could split the course up and not feel like you were running just one long course. Because it was a college town with nothing else to do, there were so many people on the course. In addition, it felt like the road was coming up to meet me. I ran a 1:42, shattered my PR by 6 minutes.
Fisrt race of the XC season. The course was the perfect blend of mud and water with just enough dry spots to make it interesting. The next 5 kilometers I found myself battling head to head with this guy. We took turns pulling each other along. Finally, with a quarter mile left I kick it up a notch and take off. I gained a huge lead on him, or so I thought. I kicked to early though and with 75 yards left he passes me. Mustering all that was left i finished right next to him. Could have cared less what my time was.
My best workout was on my sunday long run. I ran with an Ipod for the first time in forever and I ended up starting faster than I expected, with my first mile about 6:40. As I got into the run I started accelerating and at halfway I was averaging about 6:20 a mile. After that it just got rediculous and I ran the next 4 miles under 6:00 a mile. I ended up averaging 6:18 for almost exactly 13.1 miles. I finished 10 seconds slower that my half marathon pr.
My best race was the regional 1600M race at the end of my junior year. I ran 4:39, a 5 second pr. my splits were 70, 70, 71, 68. basically the best race I could have run.
so! last saturday i capped off a 90 mile week with a race. i was tired and not expecting to do particularly well, just intended to use it as a workout with some friends. i felt like i was going soooooooo slow and possibly approaching death but low a…
41:19, but the interesting thing is that two weeks later, I ran a half marathon that was on the same course as the 10k (just rearranged a bit, with a few miles added), and if I had run the 10k at the same pace I ran my half marathon, I would have go…
