I have never heard of it curing an eating disorder. I guess from what you are describing, it makes sense. Especially the control factor.
I have wondered if a few runners have eating disorders because lets face it... its easy to get into the math ...
a friend of mine, Gary Romeister, won the mini marathon in Indianapolis 5x, he actually knocked out a guy a few weeks ago, it was in the papers and everything. Not too bad, when you consider Gary is like 60 and the drunken idiot was 25.
Last year, I was as overweight and miserable with my life as a hybernating bear. Now, I can run from them!!!! 50 pounds later, and nearly 1300 miles later, I'm a much happier person. I'm now a running animal. I'm running in 2 half-marathons and a full this year. My secret? The marathon diet. Run 12-14 miles a day and pig out on anything in sight because I can and because I'm desperate around food.
Update: I've run 3 half marathons and 2 full marathons since September of last year.

I have an australian shepherd and he LOVES to run. In fact you have to run them or else they'll find ways to get in trouble when you're not around. I run him in the morning for 4 miles and then my wife will run him in the afternoon. They are great...
