2008 Leadville 100 mile Race Report

Leadville 2008 100 Miler Race Report

“You’re better than you think you are and you can do more than you think you can.” These words proved to be my motivation to complete my fourth Leadville 100 miler. I ran through rain, hail and snow to see that beautiful finish line. Here is my aid station-to-aid station of the race.

Start to May Queen (13.5 miles): Lightening and thunder was all around us when I began the race. This first section I take slow to prepare my body for the long day. I felt tig… Continue

i would love to join you for your race but i'm running the colfax marathon on the 17th (wooooo!!!!!)... one of the biggest problems that i've run into is getting it approved by the city... i think right now i just need to start talking to people and getting the idea out there more and see what the city says about everything. sounds like a lot of work but i'd still love to do it and i think it would be a cool way to earn some money for the city. anyway, thank you for the feedback and if you don't mind i will definitely email you when things are a little more solid.

i work for the city of englewood and i've been interested in having a race there for a couple years now but everyone keeps blowing me off (i've heard a lot of "just because you like to run doesn't mean everyone else does" because aparently i'm the only person in the entire denver metro ares who likes to run)... how did you go about getting your race started? did you do it all yourself or...? any advice would be awesome!

Thanks for your thoughts!! I appreciate the feedback! Not entirely sure what i plan to do with shoes. I feel unstable in beefy shoes, but the low profile have their drawbacks as well, so who knows.

Actually the shoes, nb 840 are quite new, only a couple of weeks old, but they are similar to inov-8 pretty light and fairly low. I'd never gone more than a marathon in those kinds of shoes, is it possible to train your feet to withstand the abuse or is it better to get shoes with more cushioning?

I've got a question for you: is it normal for feet to hurt in the latter part of an ultra or is it because i had crappy shoes? After 35 or so miles my feet were so sore that I had a hard time running.

I have an australian shepherd and he LOVES to run. In fact you have to run them or else they'll find ways to get in trouble when you're not around. I run him in the morning for 4 miles and then my wife will run him in the afternoon. They are great...
