The only cons come about in my experience from not having enough recovery time between runs. You will discover soon enough if this is a problem though if you breakdown. I understand that the real pros come about in your 5k and 10k race distances; ...

Just curious if anyone knows the pros and cons to this, but I leave for work every day at 5:40 am, and I usually don't leave work till around 6-6:30 every day, to make it back by 7. Sunset is 7:30, so what I've been doing lately is running at lunc...

That's kind of what I did, is pick one and add more miles, but I feel like at that point, I'm not really following a marathon plan, I'm sort of following one, and making the rest up. Eh... if you do the coach thing, let me know how that works out.

Well... I suppose this is not helpful at all, but my last marathon was 3:12, and like you, I am trying to significantly cut off time, at a minimum the necessary 2 minutes to qualify for Boston. So... instead of helping you, I guess I'm just saying...

I currently have a curious cross bred dog that is smallish but doing surprisingly well at running. He is a cross between an Australian shepherd and Pomeranian. So far he is 8 months old and up to 4 to 6 miles a day without any sign of lagging or s...

I did an 18 miler once, where for the last 4 miles or so, all I could think about was how much I wanted a YooHoo. I haven't had a YooHoo probably for over 10 years until that day, and I haven't had one since, but man did that YooHoo taste deliciou...

After college I want to get a boarder collie. They're one of the smartest breeds and they can run for miles.

I came pretty close to getting a dog yesterday, but ended up not doing it. If I do end up getting one, I'd like to get a dog I can run with, even if it's just a little bit at the end of my regular run for a cool down. I live in an apartment, so I...

UK Running

This is about a month late, due to just returning from deployment, but while in London about a month ago, I decided to look up any races being held in the area. There was one race, at Greenwich park, which was only about 2 miles from where my ship was moored. Now, due to the nature of the Navy, I couldn't go by myself, I had to take a liberty buddy. Knowing full well that the only other officer who would do this race with me was on duty, I talked a mostly out of officer into running it with me.… Continue

Overseas Running

I'm about to go for my first run on land (that is, not on a treadmill on a ship in the middle of the ocean) in 4 months. I'm pretty excited about it, but I'm sure I'll have a bit of trouble since it's been all Treadmill for so long. However, it is nice to get the opportunity to run overseas. Today, I'll be running in Rota, Spain. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance this time around to run that many places, just Spain and Bahrain, but any change is good.

On a better note, I'll be back in the… Continue

Less than a month

Until I deploy, and go from 45-55 miles/week, to (if I'm lucky), 15 miles/week, all on a treadmill that's moving from side to side while I'm running on it. Seriously though, I hate this. I remember the day I came back from my last deployment, I tried to run 3 miles and had to stop and walk at mile 2 (I couldn't even do the 15/week last time, but I have a different job this time, so I'm hoping for a bit more).

Y'all run a couple extra for me.

Disney World Marathon... so close

I did the Disney World marathon last Sunday. It's the first marathon I've been in a position to run since 2006, so it was nice to get that out of my system again. However, it was a bitter-sweet experience. As I've said before, I'm in the Navy, and deploy on ships. I'm going out again for 6 months in just a few months, and I just got back from a 6 month deployment in June, so I've been on a very tight training schedule. There's only been time for one marathon, just one shot at a Boston Qualificat… Continue

Going Home

Well, to my old home anyway. In less than two weeks, I'm going to be flying out to spend Christmas with my parents, and in my old hometown. I'm looking forward to running there again, because where I live now is flat, but where I grew up is Hill Country. That place has some rediculous hills, the first one is right when I leave the driveway (my parents live in a valley between two hills). I'm pretty excited about it, although every time I go home, it's a reminder of how out of hill running shape… Continue
