i don't really have a mantra or anything but when i'm on a long run there are two things that keep my mind occupied. 1) what i will purchase when i win the lottery and 2) how i'll look and feel when i win some major race (i just replay the image o...

Thanks for your words of encouragement, Tyra. Congratulations back to you as well on completing that 1/2 marathon! I agree with a lot of the others in that your time doesn't matter as much as your participating and finishing does! All of us on this site are better than 99% of the world, because we are active, and being active keeps you healthy. And that's the best. Keep me updated on your next race, I don't have anything until May 9th, a 1/2 marathon trail race.
Cheers,

Jim

Is there a specific area that you want run at? There's races everywhere. At the moment, I run races in VA. There is a race I want to do in NC in November. Well, let me know what you're looking for and I'll be happy to help.

My run went pretty well. I was running with over 5000 other people. The course was flat and scenic. I'm thinkin of doin this one again next year. Oh, there's alot of people that line the streets to cheer everyone on.

It's a flat course so I'm happy about that. I didn't train for it as well as I should have but I'm sure I'll do ok.

Well first off CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! No matter what the time feel proud that you finished.

OK, here is my two cents.......
If your legs are up to the task but your breathing is all out of sorts it sounds like you have lost your cardio fitness. Have no worries this will come back. It takes between one and two weeks of no or low cardio training to happen. So I would start by staying the course with your training and add some speed, track and hill work. If you don't have hills just stick with speed and track work. All you need is once a week to work on speed intervals, fartlek training. You also should do some cross training two or three time a week (bike, elliptical and plyometrics). Let me know what your training week looks like, I'll let you know if there tweaks you can help you get back to where you where. Don't forget you don't want to push too hard too soon and re-injure yourself.

Favorite thing to wear, say, chant, eat, drink, have, do..to HYPE yourself up before or during a Race....

Hi Running buddies, I want to know if you all had any intresting things you did before a race or run. I need to be alone to chant "you can do this..go hard or go home" over & over again, and it works. I see this guy out running everyday with a HUGE STACK of partially balled up papers running (NO KIDDING), I often wonder if this is the thing that keeps him going or if there are more problems there. I'm interested to find out your running/race rituals.

1st half marathon

I am running my VERY FIRST half and I am SO EXCITED. I'm going to sign up to run it with pacers to finish at my goal time. Does any one have any good advise on me running my first half or any experience on running with pacers, I'd love to hear about it.
Thanks

I have an australian shepherd and he LOVES to run. In fact you have to run them or else they'll find ways to get in trouble when you're not around. I run him in the morning for 4 miles and then my wife will run him in the afternoon. They are great...
