First Day Back

So for various reasons, I've taken the last two months "off." I put "off" in quotations because obviously I couldn't resist the occasional swim/ride/run (and I have to sometimes for work, so there : P ). But today was the first official day back, on a real live training plan, coach's orders. It was just a swim, but it was solid for me, and it felt good. It was a great way to get back on my feet. I'll be training a lot here very shortly because I have three traill halfs planned for this winter, i… Continue

What's New

Ok, so even though I haven't been on Save Run for well over a year, I haven't been sitting around either. I did the Buffalo Springs Half Ironman this past summer, as well as of couple of half marathons, and about 20 triathlons over the past year. I've had a lot of health problems, which I finally seem to be recovering from. I'm telling you, running can fix anything.

I'm coaching now, a kids' team, the UNT and TWU collegiate teams, and as an endurance coach at Lifetime Fitness. Not to play favor… Continue

More fascial massage... wooooo hoo

As a blog that is meant to be about training for the Chicago... there is a lot in here about sports therapy... but I guess it's all one and the same now! Hope someone learns something from it.

Things started feeling tight again yesterday after I neglected to stretch in the morning - I also left my massage roller in Denton when I came back down to Galveston for a couple of days. Whoops. That probably didn't help either. I spent last night icing my calf/ankle, and tomorrow I have an appointment t… Continue

My very first triathlon and a happy leg!

LEG IS BETTER!!! Wooooo hoo!

The week off of training combined with ice packs, painful massages, hundreds of dollars in medical bills, tons of stretching, and lots of nights on the couch apparently paid off. I can walk/run/ride/swim/jump up and down/climb stairs and generally act like my normal, active self again. I learned a lot about taking care of my muscles, too, so thats a good thing for sure. I guess a week of boring-ness was worth it for some of the good lessons I got out of it.

Easing… Continue

Calf massage, ice packs, and compression socks... ewww...

That title line probably should have ended with "oh my!" but "ewww" is a much more accurate description of my state of mind right now... so "ewww" it is...

The size of my leg/ankle is slowly decreasing - yaaay!! Despite my depression over not being able to run for almost a week straight now, I am excited to see some progress. I've been a good patient (a better patient since I got back from Austin - there is too much fun stuff to do there!) - I did nothing yesterday after I got home from teachin… Continue

I have an australian shepherd and he LOVES to run. In fact you have to run them or else they'll find ways to get in trouble when you're not around. I run him in the morning for 4 miles and then my wife will run him in the afternoon. They are great...
