So today I went on a 7 mile run on some dirt roads (because panama city doesn't have ANY trails). I was running past some random house and a couple of dogs come running out to the road. I sped up a little because I though, like most dogs, they would just chase me until I was out of their territory. But instead of barking or chasing me they just ran with me. For 6 miles. It was an out and back course so they stopped when I got back to their house but I was pretty happy to have a couple of running partners for the day. By the time I was at halfway they had slowed down off my pace a little and were 200M behind me, but when I got back to them they turned and ran with me back. I though it was pretty impressive that a couple dogs could run 6 miles at 6:48 pace!

But this got me thinking about how I've always wanted a dog to run with. I'll probably get one after I graduate from college. Maybe a boarder collie or a golden retriever? I've got 4 years to decide though.

they're soooooooo cute! and when you adopt them they're already housebroken and whatnot. there are adoption facitlities here in denver so i think we'll be able to find one :)

I stopped on my way back and told him what happened and made sure the owner got them some water.

Once a month this group comes to our book-a-million with a bunch of greyhounds. We have a racetrack not to far from us and after the greyhounds retire the track sells them. They're only like 2 or 3 years old too! I wonder if greyhounds can run distance though. If you decided to get one Heather I think they ship them up north or you could find another greyhound track.

My dog still needs some training on being a good running partner, but I love taking him with me. I used to have one that was a German short haired mix and that definitely was a very active dog. That's a great story how those dogs just came out and ran with you - wonder if the owners even noticed they were gone or wondered why they were exhausted that evening!

German short haired pointer is a highly active running breed, they crave activity. they make great pets as long as they get their exercise.

oh wouldn't that be great? we're thinking about getting a greyhound when we buy a house... they're not particularly active dogs though so (yeah they race and whatnot, but they also sleep like 16 hours a day) so i don't know what kind of running partner they'd make
