Save Run

Running Preservation Society

So I've been running again for about 3 and 1/2 months after coming off of a stress fracture. I had felt great with my runs/workouts up until about last week. My legs have started to feel heavy and like they are filling up with Lactic Acid at a much quicker rate. I haven't really changed much of anything about my diet or routine so does anyone have any suggestions on what it could be?

Thanks guys, I had actually thought that it could possibly be over training, especially since I went from biking right back into running (im impatient and hate missing my runs like most of us). But yes, I do weight train and I know my leg muscles are pretty well balanced..I appreciate your help!

I agree with Tommy, take a week off or so but when you start back up add some more rest days, read or hike or something other than run. But don't count recovery runs (if you do those) as rest because it ain't. Do you do any weight training? If not you might want to consider it. Building up your muscles in that fashion, I've found, definitely aids in recovery from running.

Over-training. This has happened to me several times when I was increasing my mileage. Take a week easy and make sure you're getting enough recovery between runs.

41:19, but the interesting thing is that two weeks later, I ran a half marathon that was on the same course as the 10k (just rearranged a bit, with a few miles added), and if I had run the 10k at the same pace I ran my half marathon, I would have go…
