what is better to eat after a run?

i've heard that the acids in fruit help buffer the effects of lactic acid, and of course their might little phytochemicals combat oxidative damage to your cells. but! eating easily digestable protein helps maintain muslce mass (which is pretty important considering that longer runs cause your body to produce muscle-wasting proteins...).

obviously you could just do both. and this is just a theoretical question, but if you absolutely had to choose one or the other.. what would be the most beneficial option?

edamame is just soybeans. you can get them in the frozen section at the grocery store (get the ones that are already shelled). you can stir fry them with veggies or just cook them the way you would frozen peas or corn

broccoli, edamame, asparagus, lima beans, etc. edamame is awesome 'cause it actually is a complete protein but too much soy can raise your estrogen levels which can put you at higher risk for some kinds of cancers so... there's this vegetarian chili that i get sometimes (i can't remember the brand but i can find out if you want) and it's excellent for protein and iron 'cause there's a good amount of vitamin c (which helps your body absorb iron) and it's soy protein which may be a bit easier for you.

i'm a vegetartian so... pretty much never. i have salmon like once every two weeks maybe but that's it. i do eat yogurt and occasionally egg whites so i get my protein there and from beans, soy-based stuff, and vegetable sources...

glad to hear your iron is getting better!

umm im not sure. i digest the red meat okay i just don't take as much iron and protein from any kind of meat like i should. i just got a call today though and my iron is the highest it's been since i've been seeing him and my protein is where its been staying all along. the iron he switched me to and you mintioned really helps. he said i only have to have one serving of red meat a day and another serving of meat sometimes red but not always. how much meat do you eat a day and how often do you have red meat?

is your doctor an m.d. or and r.d.?

i'm not an expert on this or anything but it doesn't make sense to me that they would have you getting iron from red meat if it's something you have a hard time digesting.

they just switched me to that a bit ago and i just got more blood work done to see if its helping. i sure hope it is im sick of meat. im not really sure why they didn't put me on it before he's supposed to be this top notch specialist.

41:19, but the interesting thing is that two weeks later, I ran a half marathon that was on the same course as the 10k (just rearranged a bit, with a few miles added), and if I had run the 10k at the same pace I ran my half marathon, I would have go…
